Get ready to dive headfirst into the grimy underbelly of London’s organised crime scene with A Gangster’s Life, a sharp, swaggering new Brit crime drama that tips its hat to Guy Ritchie staples like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrelsand The Gentlemen.
The film marks the directorial debut of award-winning cinematographer Zak Fenning (Fried), who steps behind the camera for a slick, high-energy take on small-time crooks punching way above their weight.
Fronting the chaos are Tony Cook (You, Dune: Part Two) and Jonny Weldon (One Day, House of the Dragon), with Rina Lipa making her silver-screen debut as a cold, calculating criminal – a role that instantly positions her as one to watch. They’re joined by a stacked supporting cast including Tomi May (Anne Rice’s Talamasca: The Secret Order, Line of Duty), Christina Gkioka (Saint Dracula 3D), Bradley Turner (MobLand) and Sasha Latoya (Date Me Not.).
The story follows two low-level scammers – Ant (Cook), the muscle, and Dick (Weldon), the mouth – whose latest scheme lands them in the crosshairs of vicious London crime boss Emery (May). With no real way out, they find themselves dragged into his world of threats, bloodshed and bad decisions, forced to run jobs for Emery and his ruthless crew (Lipa and Turner) just to stay alive.
When a member of the mob turns up dead, the walls close in fast. Suspected, cornered and suddenly disposable, Ant and Dick bolt for Greece in a desperate attempt to dodge Emery’s retribution. But walking away from a gangster’s life is never simple, and trouble doesn’t exactly respect borders.
Soon enough, danger comes knocking again, and the duo must figure out whether they can cheat death a second time, or whether their luck just ran dry.
A Gangster’s Life lands on digital January 19 from Miracle Media, check out the trailer below.
