The following article contains spoilers for Luke Cage Season 1
Sweet Christmas! Luke Cage will be back on our screens later this year with the second season of the acclaimed Netflix/Marvel series. Picking up after the events of The Defenders, Luke Cage has now cleared his name and has embraced his hero standing in the community. A brand new teaser trailer has arrived which you can see above, and Netflix has confirmed that season two will be released on June 22.
While the slow burn of Luke Cage’s first season might have put some fans off, and the less said about the final villain of the series the better. I won’t subdue my disappointment that Mahershala Ali wasn’t in more episodes. Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes was a great character hypnotically played by Ali. The big bad that replaced him was less than captivating. Regardless of the things that didn’t work, Mike Coler’s Luke Cage was charismatic enough to make the show infinitely better than Iron Fist.
As we unfortunately on the subject of The Immortal Iron Fist, Finn Jones will be dropping by to ‘help’ Luke Cage for a couple of episodes, so be warned. On the more positive side, perhaps the producers have worked out how to make Danny Rand more appealing.
Traditionally, Netflix releases two Marvel themed shows a year, one in the Spring and the second in the Autumn. That was altered last year with Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher all hitting Netflix last year. Now that there are more returning shows, we should expect three releases a year going forward. Or until the Marvel deal expires.
Before Luke Cage returns, his former girlfriend and fulltime badass Jessica Jones is back on our screens this week with the second season arriving on March 8 (Thursday).
