Plenty of films have been shifting their release dates recently, and we can now add Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon to that growing list. However, in a huge sign of confidence from Apple and Paramount, the highly-anticipated sage no longer has a limited theatrical release on October 6 as initially planned. Instead, we’ll have to wait an extra two weeks (October 20) as Killers of the Flower Moon is now going on wide release.
Hoping to be the Oppenheimer, Scorsese’s new film will be heading to IMAX cinemas worldwide, where all 206 minutes of his epic will be available to experience in the best possible format. A sudden shift like this only speaks to Paramount and Apple’s confidence in the film, and a wide release will certainly not harm its awards prospects.
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, with Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, John Lithgow, and Brendan Fraser, Killers of the Flower Moon will arrive in cinemas on October 20. It will be released on AppleTV+ after it has completed its theatrical run.
At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder. Based on a true story and told through the improbable romance of Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone), “Killers of the Flower Moon” is an epic western crime saga, where real love crosses paths with unspeakable betrayal. Also starring Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, John Lithgow, Brendan Fraser, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, and Jillian Dion, Killers of the Flower Moon is directed by Academy Award winner Martin Scorsese from a screenplay by Eric Roth and Scorsese, based on David Grann’s best-selling book.
