Since Michael Bay almost killed the Transformers franchise, he’s been busy not directing Bad Boys 3. Instead of reuniting with his fellow Bad Boys Martin Lawrence and Will Smith, Bay opted to make Six Underground for Netflix starring Ryan Reynolds. I’m sure there was more to Bay’s decision not to direct Bad Boys For Life, but that’s for another day as there’s a brand new trailer to watch for Six Underground.

In need of a fast sell as to what the heck this movie is about? No worries, Reynolds stars as one of the titular six billionaires who fake their own death, not for insurance reasons, but to fight crime! Written by Deadpool/Deadpool 2 duo Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, Six Underground is full of wisecracks, action galore, and all the groundwork laying for what Netflix hopes will be a franchise. A Mission Impossible styled franchise.

I frequently lay awake a night, starring into the void, and I find it hard to believe that in the last decade Michael Bay has directed two non-Transformers movies. Pain & Gain, and 13 Hours, that’s it, the rest were all Transformers flicks. I’ll give him his dues, the first one was great, the rest were largely an orgy of excess with a running time as bloated as the budgets and a plot that nobody could invest in fully. That said, Bad Boys, The Rock, Bad Boys 2, and at least 45 minutes of Armageddon were solid (albeit excessive) movies. Could Six Underground be a return of the Bay of old? Only time will tell, but the first trailer for the film is now available (watch below), and we don’t have long to wait.

Also starring Mélanie Laurent, Dave Franco, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Adria Arjona, Corey Hawkins, and Ben Hardy Six Underground hits Netflix worldwide on December 13.
