Following their recent announcement that they were picking up Charlie Brooker’s Black mirror, Netflix has confirmed that a total of twelve new episodes will be produced. That’s five more than are currently in existence!
Speaking to Digital Spy, Brooker seemed overjoyed about being part of the Netflix family;
“It’s all very exciting – a whole new bunch of Black Mirror episodes on the most fitting platform imaginable. Netflix connects us with a global audience so that we can create bigger, stranger, more international and diverse stories than before, whilst maintaining that Black Mirror feel. I just hope none of these new story ideas come true.”
Earlier this week it appeared as though life was imitating art, certain allegations were made against David Cameron that involved a dead pig, and the internet went crazy. Brooker led the charge of sarcastic Twitter comments; “Shit. Turns out Black Mirror is a documentary series”.
There is no details yet on how these twelve episodes will be made available, the traditional Black Mirror series is made up of three episode, while this was in-part down to Channel 4 budgets it also suited Brooker’s busy schedule. I would love to believe we will get all twelve episodes at once, but a more staggered release is likely more practical. The take home from this is that there are a dozen new dark hearted episodes on the horizon, we just have to find some way on containing our excitement until then.
If you’d like to know why I think Black Mirror’s move to Netflx is a great thing, check out my earlier post on that very subject right here.
