Terry Gilliam’s quest to make The Man Who Killed Don Quixote has become the stuff of myth and legend with the closest attempt being the ill-fated 2000 production that would have starred Johnny Depp, and Jean Rochefort as Don Quixote. Gilliam’s first try didn’t pan out, but we got the brilliant documentary Lost in La Mancha, and the director’s promise that he wouldn’t give up trying to will this film into the world. Two decades later and Gilliam finally released his The Man Who Killed Don Quixote starring Adam Driver, and Jonathan Pryce, and to mark the occasion the creative team behind Lost in La Mancha (directors Keith Fulton & Louis Pepe and producer Lucy Darwin) captured the journey in the new documentary He Dreams of Giants.

Combining immersive footage of Gilliam’s production with intimate interviews and archival footage from the director’s entire career, He Dreams Of Giants is a revealing character study of an artist, and a meditation on the value of creativity in the face of mortality.
Directed by Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe and produced by Lucy Darwin, the team behind Lost in La Mancha, the 2002 documentary that charted the doomed earlier production of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. He Dreams of Giants features legendary artist and director Terry Gilliam (Brazil, Twelve Monkeys), and features Adam Driver (The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, Marriage Story) and Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes, Brazil).
