Sacha Baron Cohen makes his first appearance as a leading man since The Dictator in 2012 with action comedy The Brothers Grimsby. The former Borat star plays Nobby Grimsby the long lost brother of super spy Agent Sebastian Grimsby (Mark Strong) after Nobby blows his brother’s cover the duo are forced to return to their childhood town to lay low.
The spy genre has had some fun variants over the last twelves months, Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman was insanely good, Paul Feig’s Spy was unexpectedly hilarious with Jason Statham turning in a comedically genius performance. Guy Richie’s The Man From U.N.C.L.E wasn’t the franchise starter the studio were hoping for, but it was entertaining even if Richie’s former producing partner (Matthew Vaughn) made the better spy movie. James Bond returned for the somewhat overblown Spectre with director Sam Mendes failing to recapture what worked so well with Skyfall. Still, about $850 million isn’t a misfire by any stretch of the imagination, but the crazy high budget on a Bond movie will eat up a vast amount of the profit.
Anyhoo, the Brothers Grimsby doesn’t offer much to get excited about in its second trailer aside from seeing Ian McShane do some shouting. Now You See Me director Louis Leterrier is at the helm, and the Brothers Grimsby will be in UK cinemas on March 10, 2016.
MI6’s top assassin (Mark Strong) has a brother. Unfortunately for him, he’s an English football hooligan (Sacha Baron Cohen) from the town of Grimsby. Nobby has everything a man from the poor English fishing town of Grimsby could want – 9 children and the most attractive girlfriend in northern England (Rebel Wilson). There’s only one thing missing in his life: his little brother, Sebastian. After they were adopted by different families as children, Nobby spent 28 years searching for him. Upon hearing of his location, Nobby sets off to reunite with his brother, unaware that not only is his brother an MI6 agent, but he’s just uncovered a plot that puts the world in danger. On the run and wrongfully accused, Sebastian realizes that if he is going to save the world, he will need the help of its biggest idiot.
