A brand new trailer for Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake has arrived! Earlier this year, the first footage of Guy Richie’s live-action take on Disney’s Aladdin landed, and it caused quite the stir online.
The main point on contention was the appearance of Will Smith as the Genie, and let’s just say that it had a Tobias Funke vibe. Who am I kidding, I’ve seen cosplayers going as Na’vi from Avatar that looked more convincing. Naturally, the film is still in post-production, and many of the digital effects are unfinished, that said, this is a massive Disney production, and they don’t usually make a habit of putting out incomplete footage. That aside, the new trailer has lots of new footage including snippets of some of the iconic musical numbers.
I’ll be the first to admit that Disney’s current trend of turning its animated classics into live-action remakes is hit and miss. Not in terms of box office as audiences seem to love them, but beyond giving classics a fresh lick of live-action paint, I’m failing to see the point in this endeavor. Well, aside from making the house of mouse truckloads of cash. There is no denying that this second trailer is a vast improvement on the previous promos, selling the magic, romance, and setting the tone of the beloved story. However, I remain skeptical as none of Disney’s live-action remakes thus far have felt essential.
Aladdin is released in cinemas on May 24th.
A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future.
