The second trailer for Sony’s Venom has arrived with bags more footage and a lot more speaking for the titular antihero.
The inclusion of Tom Hardy in the MCU brings the Toms up to three as he joins Holland and Hiddleston to rival the number of Chris based actors (Hemsworth, Pratt, Evans). I don’t know about you, but in this bitter names battle, I think the Toms have the upper hand as they all have H surnames. Spooky. Technically Christopher Ecclestone should count for his appearance in Thor The Dark World, but he doesn’t strike me as the sort of chap who would appreciate being called Chris. I can say that because I too am a Chris.
The dominance for power between the Toms and Chris folk of the MCU aside, this second trailer for Venom is something of a mixed bag. The trailer is already better than Topher Grace’s version of Venom/Eddie Brock in Spider-Man 3, so regardless of how this flick turns out, it will be the best movie incarnation of the character ever seen.
We get to see a bit more of Riz Ahmed’s alter ego Riot, and Venom has a craving for chomping on criminals heads after he’s told them how he’s going to consume them. As the tagline says, the world has enough superheroes, which is just as well as Venom is displaying decidedly un-superhero type behaviour. I’m guessing that he’ll learn to soften some of his goopy edges (metaphorically speaking) before the end of the movie.
Also starring Michelle Williams, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, and Woody Harrelson, Venom is directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and is unleashed in cinemas on October 5.
One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.
