Point Break celebrates it’s 20th Anniversary this year and to mark the milestone the classic heist/surfer movie is released on Blu ray for the first time… with not one bit of new content on it.
The film itself is by now legendary, FBI wonder boy Johnny Utah (Reeves) infiltrates a surfing gang who his bosses believe to be notorious bank robbers The Dead Presidents. The late Patrick Swayze gives one of his best performances as zen like leader of the gang, Bohdi.
Although spoofed by Hot Fuzz, Point Break stands the test of time of one of the best action movies of the 90s. Skilfully directed by recent Oscar Winning director Kathryn Bigelow and produced by her then husband James ‘King Of The World’ Cameron.
Brilliant chase scenes, great action and even a solid performance from Keanu Reeves and it’s not often you can say that now is it.
Even though it has no new extras (or many extras to speak of), Point Break looks good in HD and is as good today as it was 20 years ago. Although the fact this movie was released 20 years ago makes me feel old as I have still yet to fire a gun in the air and scream ‘AAAARRRRRR”
Point Break is out now on Blu Ray
