A & E released the first teaser trailer for their forthcoming Omen sequel TV series Damien. The moody promo draws on the nostalgia of the classic horror masterpiece, feeling a little like remake of the movie sequel (also called Damien) the series promises to take the concept into uncharted territory.
Developed by former The Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara, the glimpses we’re given into Damien’s world certainly has a cinematic quality, but as we only get 50 seconds of footage it’s too early to make any sweeping declarations. Bradley James steps into the ungodly shoes of Damien Thorn aided by Barbara Hershey’s Ann Rutledge who helps him reach his potential. While I have misgivings about any TV show based on a beloved movie, Mazzara is a solid showrunner and the inclusion of Scott Wilson (aka Hershel Greene from The Walking Dead) makes Damien practically unmissable.
A&E previously did an outstanding job reimagining the characters from Psycho for the immensely enjoyable Bates Motel, so there’s every reason to be optimistic that The Omen will be given the same love and attention. Then again, it could turn out to be an unholy mess and sully the brand name for generations to come.
There’s currently no UK broadcast date, but Damien launches in the US sometime this Spring.
