Here’s a quick look ahead at some of the movies coming your way this month and a little closer to Christmas.

Remakes galore in October with 3 on offer. First up is Footloose, the classic Kevin Bacon movie gets updated. Based on this soulless trailer it’s movie making by numbers and worse still no sign of John Lithgow.

The next remake in the cannon is Paul W.S Anderson’s The Three Musketeers in 3D. It has a lovely Take That song on the soundtrack and Ray Stevenson in a big budget movie is always nice but it just doesn’t do much for me. This might have something to do with Orlando Bloom and 3D, two things I am not a fan of. That said, Bloom did some amazing acting in Uniqlo shop windows earlier this year. This wasn’t an experimental piece of acting he toured up and down shop windows in the UK (that would have been something to see) but he was in their ad campaigns, not acting – just standing, oddly I didn’t believe he wanted to be wearing the clothes he was selling.

Christoph Waltz plays the Cardinal but after the disappointment of Green Hornet it’s going to take more than that to get me to the cinema.

The last remake is The Thing. It might be a prequel but frankly you can’t be classed as a prequel with the exact same title as the original. I know I have made this point before but it really bugs me, Rise Of The Planet of The Thing? The Thing: You’ve Got To Be Fucking Kidding Me? The Thing Before The Thing? Ok my suggested titles are truly awful but at least you know what you’re getting. The Warrior’s Joe Edgerton has grown a beard to star and it’s unleashed next month.

From remakes to spin-offs, looking slightly further ahead, DreamWorks let the kitty out of the bag with Puss in Boots. This spin off has been in the works for a few years, Antonio Banderas returns as the title character to tell his story. Oh, so it’s a prequel spin off, a pre-off? pre-spin? Well either way Salma Hayek and a host of famous faces lend their voices to the forthcoming  3D film, oh it’s in 3D…
