The first trailer for Netflix’s tense thriller Bird Box has flown in, and if you liked A Quiet Place get ready for A Dark Place. Not Garth Marenghi’s. Sandra Bullock stars in Susanne Bier’s (The Night Manager) adaptation of Josh Malerman’s book, while you digest that, check out the trailer above.
Netflix doesn’t have a great track record with their original films. High-quality TV shows, the streaming giant has plenty of those (watch The Haunting of Hill House right now), movies, on the other hand, are a wildly inconsistent offering. Bird Box looks like it could change that. A mysterious and unstoppable force is wiping out the population on a global scale. However, this is no Godzilla or rampaging monster devouring cities. One glimpse of the creature drives people insane causing them to take their own lives. Sandra Bullock stars a Malorie, a mother of two young children who is forced to walk a dangerous path in the hope of finding sanctuary. If the film is half as tense as the trailer, Netflix has a winner on their hands.
Also starring Trevante Rhodes, Jacki Weaver, Rosa Salazar, Danielle Macdonald, Lil Rel Howery, Tom Hollander, Colson Baker, BD Wong, Sarah Paulson, and John Malkovich, place your bets now how many will be alive when the credits roll.
Bird Box will be released in selected cinemas and on Netflix on December 21st.
When a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, only one thing is certain: if you see it, you take your life. Facing the unknown, Malorie finds love, hope and a new beginning only for it to unravel. Now she must flee with her two children down a treacherous river to the one place left that may offer sanctuary. But to survive, they’ll have to undertake the perilous two-day journey blindfolded.
