Proving you can’t keep an iconic serial killer down, the first trailer for Saw X has landed, which sees the return of Tobin Bell as John Kramer, aka Jigsaw. Shockingly, the Saw Saga started almost 20 years ago (yep, let that sink in a moment), with the first movie taking the box office by storm in 2004. The Saw franchise remained a staple of Halloween for six years right up until the release of Saw The Final Chapter in 2010.

Naturally, any movie that calls itself the final anything will most certainly not be the end of the franchise; the saga continues with Jigsaw and the Chris Rock-led spin-off Spiral. Kevin Greutert returns to direct after helming Saw IV and Saw 3D (aka The Final Chapter), as does franchise regular Shawnee Smith as Amanda Young. Set between the events of the first two films, Saw X promises more of what you love or hate about the gruesome trap-loving horror series. I love the first movie and admire any horror franchise that can endure this long; however, my love of gut-churning gore has diminished over the years, and for me, the Saw franchise was overplayed by the time the credits rolled on the third movie.

I don’t know how much more can been packed into John Kramer’s back story, but Lionsgate has no intention of letting go of Saw anytime soon. Saw X arrives in cinemas on September 29, check out the trailer below.

Set between the events of Saw and Saw II, a sick and desperate John Kramer travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer — only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, the infamous serial killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged and ingenious traps.
