Comic-Con has become the geek Christmas with its array of announcements, trailers, and clips of all the latest big movies and TV shows. Following the brief teaser a few couple of months ago, the first full trailer has arrived for Star Trek Discovery.
Taking place a decade before the events of the original 60s series (and 90 years after Enterprise), Discovery was created by Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller and the new trailer paints a bleak picture for Starfleet. A power hungry Klingon named T’Kuvma (Chris Obi) is uniting all the ancient Klingon houses to lead them into a war with the United Federation.
The Walking Dead’s Sonequa Martin-Green leads the the cast the also includes James Frain, Doug Jones, Michelle Yeoh, Jason Issacs and guest star Rainn Wilson. Fuller decided to exit the series as co-showrunner shortly before production began owing to his commitments to American Gods.
Star Trek Discovery was originally given a twelve episode order which was increased to fifteen earlier this year. If that’s not a sign of confidence that Discovery is the Star Trek series we need right now, I don’t know what is.
The first season will be divided into two blocks, the first kicks off on September 24 with a double episode and will conclude early November. The second batch of episodes will be released weekly on Netflix sometime in January
Here’s the official synopsis for the series
Star Trek Discovery will follow the voyages of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new life forms, and one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself. The series will feature a new ship and new characters while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.
