Released alongside the new three-disc Collector’s Edition of Inside Llewyn Davis on October 8, which you can read about here, the Director’s Cut of Joel and Ethan Coen’s remarkable debut Blood Simple is coming to 4K UHD.
The film will be available as a two-disc 4K UHD Limited Steelbook, a standalone 4K UHD edition and on Blu-ray. Each version comes complete with an exclusive poster.
A ruthless Texas bar owner, played by Dan Hedaya (The Usual Suspects), hires a private detective, played by M. Emmet Walsh (Blade Runner), to murder his wife, played by Frances McDormand (Fargo), and her lover, played by John Getz (The Fly). The apparently simple plan quickly spirals into violence, betrayal and deadly misunderstanding.
Originally released in 1984, Blood Simple introduced many of the qualities that would come to define the Coen brothers’ work. Ruthless characters, bitter irony, dark humour and meticulously constructed suspense combine in a striking neo-noir filled with visual invention.
The new editions feature three exclusive featurettes exploring the production design with Jane Musky, the making of the film with Deborah Reinisch and Carter Burwell’s atmospheric score. Also included are archive interviews with the filmmakers and cast, an introduction by Mortimer Young, the infamous fake trailer and a brand new documentary about the Coen brothers.
