The King’s Man Trailer

The first teaser has landed for Matthew Vaughn’s wartime set Kingsman prequel, The King’s Man. Decades before Colin Firth’s Harry Hart mentored a rough around the edges protégé with Eggsy, the secret organisation was formed during a time of war, and now we’re going to find out how.

Previously referred to as The Great Game, The King’s Man is a stark contrast to the previous entries in the franchise, but I was not expecting it to look so ruddy good. Vaughn did warn fans that the prequel is drastically different from what has gone before, and this first teaser delivers on that promise. The Kingsman franchise was distributed by 20th Century Fox up until the completion of the Disney merger. This means that The King’s Man will be one of the first R-rated releases under Disney in quite some time. Naturally, some fans were concerned that Disney would be watering anything R-rated down to its usual PG-13 box office-friendly rating, but that is thankfully not the case. We already know that Deadpool is going to remain for adults, so it stands to reason that Disney doesn’t want to dilute what works.

Matthew Vaughn is staying firmly entrenched in the world of Kingsman with a sequel to The Golden Circle due to start production early in the new year. Plus there’s the US set spin-off, Statesmen, led by Channing Tatum that is still in development. Starring Ralph Fiennes, Harris Dickinson, Liam Neeson, Daniel Brühl, Rhys Ifans, Gemma Arterton, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Charles Dance, Matthew Goode, Tom Hollander, Djimon Hounsou, and Stanley Tucci, The King’s Man is released in cinemas on February 14, 2020.
