It’s time for “action” on the award-winning existential comedy-drama The Martini Shot, which sees Stranger Things star Matthew Modine step behind (and in front of) the camera. Modine stars as Steve, an eccentric filmmaker diagnosed with a terminal illness who sets out on an unexpected journey of self-reflection while confronting the reality of his own mortality.

Written and directed by Stephen Wallis (The Performance), the film boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Fiona Glascott, Stuart Townsend, Jason London, John Cleese, Sir Derek Jacobi, and Morgana Robinson. After an acclaimed, multi-award-winning run on the festival circuit, The Martini Shot arrives on UK digital from 2 March, courtesy of Miracle Media.

With the end of his life looming, Steve throws himself into production on what he intends to be his final masterpiece, a “transcendental” film shooting against the sweeping backdrops of rural Ireland. Convinced that he may be the only true constant in his own universe, he begins to collapse the boundaries between memory and reality, past and present.

To realise his ambitious vision, Steve assembles an unconventional crew made up of friends and collaborators, some living, some long gone, all of whom help bring his singular ideas to the screen. As his condition deteriorates, the line between imagination and existence grows ever thinner.

Facing dwindling time, the ailing auteur attempts to make amends, searching for clarity about life, death, and the legacy one leaves behind. But will he uncover the answers he seeks before the universe calls “cut”?

Blending surrealism with supernatural undertones, The Martini Shot is both playful and poignant, and a heartfelt reminder to embrace life while the cameras are still rolling.
