The Rock and The Stath Reunite in Hobbs and Shaw Trailer

The first trailer for the long-awaited Hobbs & Shaw movie has arrived. He might have decided to take a break from law enforcement at the end of Fast & Furious 8, but Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs is back in action taking on his most challenging mission to date.

After eight movies and more than $5 billion banked globally, the Fast and Furious franchise is ready for its first spin-off. Pairing Johnson’s Hobbs with his frenemy Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), the spin-off seeks to expand the Fast world and launch a new franchise. There is no way of escaping the fact that Johnson and F&F mainstay Vin Diesel don’t get on anymore. They didn’t shoot a single scene together for the last sequel with rumours that the storyline keeping Dom away from his team was engineered to keep the feuding stars apart. Universal has already dated the final to F&F sequels for 2020 & 2021, but there is no way they’ll stop there as it’s one of their biggest franchises.

Shaw was introduced in a cameo at the end of part six which tied into Han’s death in Toyko Drift. Oddly, Toyko Drift is set after the events of films four, five, and six, but let’s not start picking at the logic here. Having killed Han, and hunted Dom & co in part seven, Shaw became an unlikely alley in part eight and everybody kind of just forgot he killed Han. As I said, I’ll stop picking at the flaws as you don’t turn up to this franchise for the story or any sense of realism.

Directed by Deadpool 2 and Atomic Blonde’s David Leitch, the action is as furious as you’d expect as the bickering duo are tasked to take down a supervillain named Brixton (Idris Elba). Things go boom, there’s banter, and more things go boom, banter, repeat. Also starring Cliff Curtis, Roman Reigns, Vanessa Kirby, Eiza Gonzalez, and Eddie Marsan, Hobbs & Shaw arrives in cinemas in August.
