Grab your beret and brace yourself for some vintage mayhem — Severin Films is bringing The Wild Geese back to life in glorious 4K. The 1978 British action classic, directed by Andrew V. McLaglen, is getting the worldwide UHD premiere it deserves, complete with a brand-new restoration scanned straight from the original camera negative. Fans will be able to catch the first-ever theatrical reissue in UK cinemas from November 14 2025, before the jaw-dropping Ultimate Collector’s Edition UHD/BD/CD box set lands on December 8 2025.
As ever, Severin Home Entertainment releases are famed for their fully loaded Collector’s Editions, and The Wild Geese is no exception. The box set is absolutely stacked — we’re talking more than nine hours of new and archival special features, a 316-page book titled Fifty Men in the Valley of the Shadow by Tony Earnshaw (packed with script extracts, rare photos, and fresh interviews), the original Roy Budd soundtrack CD, and even six UK lobby card reproductions for that proper collector’s touch.
The film itself remains a brawny, unapologetic slice of 1970s action cinema, headlined by three legends of the screen: Richard Burton, Roger Moore, and Richard Harris. They play a team of battle-hardened mercenaries pulled back into one final mission — a brutal rescue op in a politically unstable African nation. Parachute in, break out a deposed President, and somehow make it back alive. Easy, right? Not quite.
Also featuring Hardy Krüger and Stewart Granger, The Wild Geese is the sort of action-packed, morally murky adventure Hollywood rarely makes anymore, part war story, part survival thriller, and entirely a product of its era. Produced by Euan Lloyd and written by Reginald Rose (12 Angry Men), this one’s an essential piece of action history finally getting the restoration it deserves.
Come November, the Geese take flight once more — and this time, they’re sharper than ever.
