In the first trailer for “MaXXXine,” the sequel to Ti West’s “X,” we see Maxine Minx (played by Mia Goth) rebranding herself as a blonde bombshell in double denim in the neon-soaked 80s. After surviving a traumatic experience at a Texas farmhouse, she has turned to the adult film industry and is now quickly building her resume. The trailer shows Maxine earning a role in a legitimate horror movie, but her aspirations are threatened by the L.A. Night Stalker, Richard Ramirez, who was a drug addict and burglar whose break-ins escalated in the mid-’80s. Ramirez’s crime spree ultimately led to his conviction for thirteen counts of murder and other charges.

In the movie, Maxine seems to relish the chance to confront Ramirez, even though the investigators around her seem to be at a loss about how to solve the case. The first trailer features a stacked cast, including Halsey, Elizabeth Debicki, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, Bobby Cannavale, and Kevin Bacon. Bacon plays a private investigator on the hunt for Maxine, who is also being pursued by her televangelist father, from whom she ran away in “X.” Along with the sublime Pearl, MaXXXine promises to be a trilogy closer worthy of the instant franchise.

MaXXXine is set to hit cinemas on July 5, 2024, check out the trailer below.
