Ever since the Twilight ordeal came to an end, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have made interesting career choices. Both paid their dues making indie flicks, arthouse oddities before separately rejoining mainstream with Pattinson landing the role as Batman, and Stewart in the new Charlie’s Angels. As a little aside, I’m deliriously excited about The Lighthouse.
Taking a break from thought-provoking drama, Stewart heads up the cast of creature-feature Underwater. While this was technically a 20th Century Fox movie, it’s now Disney’s problem as Underwater wrapped production more than two years ago, not an encouraging sign. That said, I’m a sucker for an underwater creature-feature, 47 Metres Down Uncaged looks hatefully bad, but I’ll check it out. Thanks to my trusty Cineworld Unlimited Card, to our US readers this is a Movie Pass system that works.
Disney has had a rough time with 20th Century Fox’s completed slate of movies, so far, they’ve generated a hefty loss (reportedly more than $250 million), and Disney top brass isn’t best pleased. However, it is difficult to feel sorry for Disney; they’ve released 5 movies this year that have made more than $1 billion a piece. One of them was Endgame than clocked Avatar’s long-held title as the biggest movie of all time. With their streaming service Disney+ landing this November, the Fox loses are minor, but with at least a dozen more Fox titles to release those loses will increase.
Also starring T.J. Miller, Jessica Henwick, Mamoudou Athie, Vincent Cassel, John Gallagher Jr., and Gunner Wright. Underwater is released January 10, 2020.
UNDERWATER is a film that follows a crew of underwater researchers who must scramble to safety after an earthquake devastates their subterranean laboratory
