Venom Honest Trailer

I think we can all agree that Venom was a mixed bag of a movie. The trailers didn’t inspire much confidence in Tom Hardy’s first stab at a Marvel character, and many of us assumed that Venom would flop at the box office. Then, a funny thing happened, the reviews were poor, but the box office told a very different story.

Much like the Fast & Furious franchise, four of the five Michael Bay Transformers, and Mrs Brown’s Boys, Venom turned out to be critic-proof. Banking more than $850 million worldwide against a $100 million production budget, Venom was a stone cold blockbuster. I’m still unsure how that happened, but to restore faith in the universe those smarty pants people over at Screen Junkies have unleashed their Honest Trailer for Venom.

While there is no denying that the first film made money, I’m unsure if Sony has a solid foundation to build a Venom franchise. I saw the movie out of curiosity, however, unless there’s a drastic change of direction or a better script, I’ll save the sequel for Netflix. Thanks to the unexpected box-office triumph, Sony won’t be in a hurry to sell the Spider-Man characters back to Marvel Studios. Hopefully, Sony will work a little harder on making a better sequel. To add to Spider-Man, and Venom, Sony is readying an adaptation of Morbius starring Jared Leto for a 2020 release alongside Venom 2.

Venom is released on DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital Download on February 4.

One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.
