Before we get into this, there are likely to be some spoilers below for the first season of Westworld, consider yourself appropriately warned.
Comic Con continues to serve up world exclusives this weekend, and the first trailer has arrived for the highly anticipated second season of HBO’s Westworld. Following the conclusion of the first season late last year, fans all over the world sighed in unison when it was revealed that Westworld wouldn;t return until 2018. At that point, they may as well have said 2020 as the wait seemed endless. Six months on and we get our first look at season two with a nifty little teaser.
The end of season one saw Ford (Anthony Hopkins) unleash his now self-aware creations into the park and the guest therein. We also got a glimpse at the new narrative that Ford had been tinkering with, and Ed Harris’s Man in Black finally got his wish to progress to the next level.
Series creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy did phenomenal work on the first season despite a difficult production. The pilot was ordered back in 2013 and a full series order was granted early the next year. HBO planned to release the series mid-2015, but all we got that year was a brief teaser and a 2016 launch date. In the end, it was all worth the wait as Westworld was a huge success and gave Game of Thrones fans another show to obsess over (I include myself in that group).
We don’t know much about the second season beyond Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsten, Jeffrey Wright, Thandie Newton, Luke Hemsworth, and Ed Harris are all returning. HBO has yet to announce an official start date for season two, but as soon as we hear something, you’ll be within the first million people to find out.
