Bill Nighy Stars in The First Trailer For The Limehouse Golem

Bill Nighy leads the cast of Juan Carlos Medina Victorian murder mystery The Limehouse Golem that oozes menace from every pore. Nighy stars as Inspector John Kildare, assigned to the case of series of horrific murders that have befallen the city. An already complicated case takes an unexpected turn when Kildare meets a young woman (Olivia Cooke) who may hold the key to solving the crime.

I am automatically onboard with just about anything Bill Nighy is in. While that occasionally means sitting through a dud like Dad’s Army, there is always something to love about Nighy in any role. It has been a while since we’ve seen Bill play a deathly serious character, even the Johnny Worricker trilogy has some cool breeze Bill on offer. So I for one relish seeing Nighy take on a meaty role, even more so when he is the lead.

Written by Jane Goldman (Kingsman, The Woman in Black) and also starring Douglas Booth, Sam Reid, Adam Brown and Daniel Mays, The Limehouse Golem is released in the UK on September 1st.

Set on the unforgiving, squalid streets of Victorian London in 1880, our tale begins in the baroque, grandiose music hall where the capital’s most renowned performer Dan Leno (Douglas Booth) takes to the stage. The whimsical thespian performs a monologue, informing his dedicated audience of the ghastly fate of a young woman who had once adorned this very stage, his dear friend Elizabeth Cree (Olivia Cooke); for the beguiling songstress is facing up to her forthcoming death by hanging, having been accused of murdering her husband John Cree (Sam Reid). Lizzie’s death seems inevitable, until Detective Inspector John Kildare (Bill Nighy) is assigned to the case of the Limehouse Golem – a nefarious, calculating serial killer, murdering innocent, unconnected victims, leaving behind barely identifiable corpses – and his distinctive, trademark ‘M’.  All is not what it seems and everyone is a suspect and everyone has a secret.
